Ms. Hiroko Morita-Lou graduated from ICU in 1977. Having recently retired from her long career at the United Nations, she is busy giving lectures, writing, and advising students in both the U.S. and Japan. She currently resides in Connecticut. We asked her to look back at her time at ICU.
This month, we asked Ms. Chizuko Muranaka Broinowski (ID 88) to look back at her time at ICU. After graduating from ICU, Chizuko earned two master’s degrees in communication and journalism in the U.K., and worked in journalism for many years. She moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, from New York in 2009, and currently works as a freelance interpreter.
Drs. Ikuko and Hiroshi Mizukami were in the first class at ICU. They currently reside in Southern California and continue to be actively involved in the alumni association there. We asked them to look back at their time at ICU. The Mizukamis co-wrote the article below, and shared some valuable photos from the 1950s.
This month we introduce you to Ms. Motoko Shimizu, head of the Washington D.C. chapter of the alumni association. Described as the “treasure” of the D.C. alumni community by one alum, she selflessly takes it upon herself to plan alumni events and act as a bridge between the D.C. area and the staff of ICU and JICUF.
Danny Ha was an OYR (One Year Regular student) at ICU from 1993 to 1994. He currently resides in New York, and will join JICUF’s Board of Trustees in April!
This month’s featured alum is Izumi Osawa-Minevich, the head of ICU Alumni Association’s NY Chapter. Izumi, who is originally from Koriyama (Fukushima), graduated from ICU in 2004 and now works for Ramapo College in New Jersey.
This month, we are launching a new feature, “Alumni Stories,” in which we ask an ICU alum in North America to write about his/her time at ICU and how it has impacted his/her life. The first one up is Masako Kawashima, class of ’75. Masako has been an indispensable member of the Southern California Chapter of the Alumni Association.
ICU alumna Yuko Maeno (June, 2010) stopped by the Japan ICU Foundation to tell us about her exciting transition to graduate school. From September of this year, she will be a new Rotary Peace Fellow at the University of Bradford in the UK. It’s the latest chapter in her fascinating global career!
