Thomas “Tim” Winant has a long relationship with both ICU and JICUF. In the early 60s, he studied abroad at ICU as an “OYR” (exchange student), and again in the mid-60s as a special student taking an intensive course in Japanese. In the 1980s, he was on the Board of JICUF, and returned to ICU in 1990 to serve as the Assistant to the President and the Dean of International Affairs until 1999. We asked Tim to share his unique story in a series of articles. Here is part 1.
Ms. Jessica Cork studied at ICU from 1995 to 1996 as an “OYR” (“One Year Regular,” or exchange student) when she was an undergraduate student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After graduation, she joined the JET program and worked for the Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta for over a decade. She is currently Vice President of Community Engagement and Communications in the YKK Corporation of America. Ms. Cork shares career advice based on her experiences with current students and recent graduates.
Wayne Osako, who studied at ICU from 1990 to 1991 as an OYR (exchange student) from the University of California, Riverside, played an instrumental role in the issuance of the “Go For Broke” stamp that honors Japanese-American soldiers who served during WWII. We asked Wayne to share his story.
