Ms. Hiroko Morita-Lou graduated from ICU in 1977. Having recently retired from her long career at the United Nations, she is busy giving lectures, writing, and advising students in both the U.S. and Japan. She currently resides in Connecticut. We asked her to look back at her time at ICU.

This month, we asked Ms. Chizuko Muranaka Broinowski (ID 88) to look back at her time at ICU. After graduating from ICU, Chizuko earned two master’s degrees in communication and journalism in the U.K., and worked in journalism for many years. She moved to Lausanne, Switzerland, from New York in 2009, and currently works as a freelance interpreter.

Drs. Ikuko and Hiroshi Mizukami were in the first class at ICU. They currently reside in Southern California and continue to be actively involved in the alumni association there. This month we introduce you to Ms. Motoko Shimizu, head of the Washington D.C. chapter of the alumni association. Described as the “treasure” of the D.C. alumni community by one alum, she selflessly takes it upon herself to plan alumni events and act as a bridge between the D.C. area and the staff of ICU and JICUF.

On January 18th, the Alumni Association’s NY Chapter and JICUF co-hosted a shinnenkai in Manhattan, and approximately 30 alumni gathered to celebrate the new year.

This month’s featured alum is Izumi Osawa-Minevich, the head of ICU Alumni Association’s NY Chapter. Izumi, who is originally from Koriyama (Fukushima), graduated from ICU in 2004 and now works for Ramapo College in New Jersey.
